Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Compound Phellodendron Liquid (复方黄柏涂剂) is a topical traditional Chinese medicine formulation composed of multiple herbal ingredients including Forsythia suspensa (连翘), Phellodendron amurense bark (黄柏), Lonicera japonica flower (金银花), Taraxacum mongolicum (蒲公英), and Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans (蜈蚣). It is presented as a reddish-brown liquid for external use. The product is primarily indicated for clearing heat and detoxifying, reducing swelling and promoting tissue repair. Its main clinical uses are in the management of infected wounds after ulceration or abscess rupture—especially those classified as "yang syndrome" in traditional Chinese medicine. Pharmacologically, it exhibits antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, anti-inflammatory effects, promotion of wound healing by enhancing macrophage phagocytosis and boosting nonspecific immunity[1][6][8]. Clinical studies have shown efficacy in treating perianal abscesses post-surgery[7]. The mechanism of action is attributed to the combined effects of its herbal components which include flavonoids and alkaloids with immunomodulatory properties[5].
