Overview

Compound Qinghao, also known as Qinghao Biejia decoction, is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula. It originates from the classic TCM text "Wenbing Tiaobian" and is primarily used for the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), especially in patients with yin deficiency syndrome. The formula contains multiple herbal ingredients, with *Qinghao* (Artemisia annua or sweet wormwood) as a key component. Artemisinin, an active compound derived from *Qinghao*, has demonstrated anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects relevant to SLE management. Other components contribute additional anti-inflammatory and immune-regulating properties. The mechanism of action includes inhibition of Th17 cell expression and IL-17 production, reduction of inflammation, improvement in immunity, and amelioration of renal pathology associated with SLE[1][4].
