Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Compound Qinghao Oral Liquid is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by researchers at the Zhejiang University of Chinese Medicine, notably under the leadership of Professor Fan Yongsheng. It is specifically indicated for the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), particularly for patients presenting with the Yin deficiency and internal heat syndrome. The preparation is a multi-herbal extract, with *Artemisia annua* (Qinghao) as the principal component, supplemented by other herbs such as *Lonicera japonica* (Jinyinhua) and *Paeonia lactiflora* (Chishao). Mechanistically, the drug acts as an immunomodulator that restores the balance between Th17 and regulatory T-cell (Treg) populations, inhibits the over-proliferation of B lymphocytes, and reduces the production of pathogenic autoantibodies like anti-dsDNA. It also exhibits anti-inflammatory properties by suppressing the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-17. In clinical practice, it is often used as an adjunctive therapy to improve clinical symptoms and allow for a reduction in the maintenance dose of corticosteroids.
