Overview
Compound Qinghuang Powder (Fufang Qinghuang San) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by Xiyuan Hospital of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences for the treatment of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). The preparation is a combination of Qinghuang Powder—which consists of Realgar (containing arsenic sulfide) and Indigo Naturalis—along with other supportive herbs. It is designed to induce the differentiation of bone marrow cells and promote apoptosis in malignant clones, leveraging the therapeutic properties of arsenic while using additional herbal components to mitigate toxicity and support hematopoietic function. It is typically administered orally and has been studied in various clinical trials in China for its efficacy in improving blood counts and reducing blast percentages in MDS patients.
