Overview

Compound Sabal Berry is an oral pharmaceutical drug formulated as tablets, primarily indicated for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and bladder irritation symptoms. It is a combination of extracts from Sabal berry (Saw Palmetto, *Serenoa repens*) and narrow-leaf coneflower (likely *Echinacea angustifolia*). Its proposed mechanisms of action include anti-androgenic effects through the inhibition of 5α-reductase (both type 1 and type 2 isoenzymes) and the blocking of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) binding to androgen receptors. Additionally, it exhibits anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative, and anti-edema properties, and may modulate α1-adrenoceptors to improve bladder function. It also inhibits cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase activity, and can inhibit prolactin and growth factor-induced cell proliferation. The drug is currently undergoing clinical trials in China for BPH.
