Overview
Compound Shelong Capsule is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) hospital preparation developed by the Shanxi Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is specifically formulated for the treatment of idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN), a common cause of nephrotic syndrome in adults. The preparation is a combination of several TCM components, notably including animal-derived ingredients such as Agkistrodon acutus (snake) and Lumbricus (earthworm), which are believed to clear heat, detoxify, and resolve blood stasis according to TCM principles. Clinically, it is used to reduce proteinuria, improve renal function, and protect podocytes. Research suggests that its mechanism of action may involve the modulation of immune responses, specifically by influencing the Phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R) pathway and reducing the deposition of immune complexes in the glomerular basement membrane.
