Overview

Compound sodium aescinate is a topical combination pharmaceutical product primarily composed of sodium aescinate (a triterpenoid saponin derived from horse chestnut seeds) and diethylamine salicylate. Sodium aescinate acts as a vasoprotective and anti-edematous agent by reducing capillary permeability, increasing venous tone, and inhibiting the activation of endothelial cells and lysosomal enzymes. Diethylamine salicylate provides local analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis. This combination is widely utilized for the treatment of localized swelling, edema, and pain resulting from trauma, surgery, or venous disorders such as thrombophlebitis. In clinical practice, particularly in China, it is also frequently employed to manage noncytotoxic drug extravasation, often in combination with corticosteroids like dexamethasone to mitigate tissue damage and inflammation.
