Overview

Compound Taxus capsule (also known as Fufang Hongdoushan Jiaonang) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation approved in China for the adjuvant treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) undergoing chemotherapy. It is composed of Taxus chinensis bark (yew bark), red ginseng, and Glycyrrhiza uralensis (licorice). The formulation exhibits antitumor and immunomodulatory activities. The active component paclitaxel (derived from Taxus chinensis) acts by binding to tubulin, stabilizing microtubules, and inhibiting cell mitosis, while ginsenosides and glycyrrhizin enhance immune function and reduce chemotherapy-induced toxicity. Originally developed by Chongqing Sano Biological Pharmaceutical, the drug's assets and marketing authorization were transferred to Hainan Haiyao in late 2023 to settle outstanding debts.
