Compound X

Compound X is an orally administered small molecule inhibitor of the xCT (SLC7A11) transporter, currently in preclinical development by J-Pharma. xCT is the functional subunit of the system xc- cystine/glutamate antiporter, which facilitates the exchange of extracellular cystine for intracellular glutamate. This process is vital for the synthesis of glutathione, the cell's primary antioxidant. By inhibiting xCT, Compound X aims to induce oxidative stress and ferroptosis, a form of regulated cell death, particularly in cancer cells that are highly dependent on this transporter for survival.
