Overview
Compound Xinyihua is a combination pharmaceutical preparation widely utilized in China for the symptomatic relief of acute and chronic rhinitis, allergic rhinitis, and sinusitis. It is most commonly formulated as a nasal spray or solution. The medication integrates Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) components with modern pharmacological agents to provide a multi-faceted approach to nasal congestion and inflammation. The primary herbal constituent is *Flos Magnoliae* (Xinyihua), which contains volatile oils known for their anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, and mild anesthetic properties. Many pharmaceutical versions also include naphazoline hydrochloride, a sympathomimetic amine that acts as a potent alpha-adrenergic receptor agonist. Naphazoline produces rapid vasoconstriction of the nasal mucosal blood vessels, thereby reducing swelling and improving airflow. Menthol is frequently added to the formulation to provide a cooling sensation and enhance the subjective perception of nasal patency.
