Overview

Compound Zhenzhu Tiaozhi (FTZ) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) capsule formulation developed by The First Affiliated Hospital of Guangdong Pharmaceutical University. It is a multi-herb preparation composed of eight traditional Chinese medicinal herbs, including Rhizoma coptidis, Fructus Ligustri Lucidi, Herba cirsii japonici, Radix Salvia miltiorrhiza, Radix Notoginseng, Cortex Eucommiae, and Fructus Citri Sarcodactylis. FTZ is primarily investigated for the treatment of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Its mechanism of action involves the modulation of the PI3K-AKT and HIF-1α signaling pathways, regulation of lipid metabolism-related genes, and influence on the gut-liver axis to reduce hepatic steatosis and inflammation. The formulation has been used clinically in China for over a decade to treat hyperlipidemia and metabolic syndrome.
