Overview

Concentrated Growth Factors (CGF) is an autologous, blood-derived biological product consisting of a concentrated platelet-rich fibrin matrix. It is produced through a specialized centrifugation process of the patient's own venous blood, which isolates a fibrin scaffold rich in bioactive molecules. These include platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and insulin-like growth factor (IGF). Developed by the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-Sen University, CGF is being evaluated for the treatment of traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI). The therapeutic mechanism involves the release of these growth factors to promote angiogenesis, modulate the inflammatory microenvironment, and stimulate neural stem cell proliferation and axonal regeneration. In clinical applications, CGF is often prepared as a biofilm for surgical implantation at the site of the spinal cord lesion to facilitate motor and sensory recovery.
