Concentrated platelet-rich fibrin (C-PRF) is an autologous blood-derived biologic used in regenerative medicine, particularly in dentistry and periodontology. It is a second-generation platelet concentrate produced by centrifuging a patient's own blood without the addition of anticoagulants or bovine thrombin. C-PRF contains a high concentration of platelets, leukocytes, and growth factors (such as TGF-β, PDGF, and VEGF) trapped within a dense fibrin matrix. This matrix acts as a bioactive scaffold and a reservoir for the slow release of growth factors, which promote tissue healing, angiogenesis, and bone regeneration. In clinical practice, C-PRF is often used as an adjunct to surgical or non-surgical periodontal treatments, such as minimally invasive non-surgical treatment (MINST), to enhance the repair of advanced periodontitis and intrabony periodontal defects.
