Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Congrong Shujing Granules is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) compound formulation developed for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease (PD), particularly in patients with the TCM syndrome of Shen (Kidney) essence deficiency. The granule contains multiple herbal ingredients and exerts neuroprotective effects by reducing endoplasmic reticulum stress, ameliorating mitochondrial dysfunction, and inhibiting neuronal apoptosis. Mechanistically, it induces expression of molecular chaperone GRP78 and modulates cell metabolism-related processes as well as ribosome-related pathways. Transcriptomic analyses suggest that it regulates gene loci relevant to PD pathogenesis such as AIDA, ANKRD36BP2, BCL2A1, BCL2L11, FTH1P2, GCH1, HPRT1, NFE2L2, RMRP, RPS7, TGFBR1, WIPF2 and COX7B[6][4][3][1]. Clinical studies indicate that Congrong Shujing Granules can improve motor symptoms in PD patients while reducing levodopa dosage requirements without significant safety concerns[6].
