Overview
Congxin Lunzhi Fang (CXLZF) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula primarily investigated for its therapeutic potential in treating atherosclerosis and related metabolic disorders. The formula is designed based on the "treating from the heart" (Congxin Lunzhi) theory of TCM. Preclinical studies in ApoE-/- mice have demonstrated that CXLZF significantly reduces atherosclerotic plaque size, enhances plaque stability by increasing collagen content, and lowers serum lipid levels. Additionally, it shows hepatoprotective effects by reducing serum transaminases (ALT and AST) and mitigating liver steatosis. The primary mechanism of action involves the upregulation of Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme 2 (ACE2) protein expression and the downregulation of the adhesion molecule E-selectin, thereby reducing vascular inflammation and protecting endothelial function.
