The conjugated polysaccharide meningococcal C vaccine is a glycoconjugate vaccine designed to protect against invasive disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroup C. It consists of purified capsular polysaccharide from serogroup C bacteria that is chemically linked (conjugated) to a carrier protein, such as tetanus toxoid or CRM197. This conjugation enhances the immune response by inducing T-cell dependent immunity and immunologic memory, making it more effective in infants and young children compared to plain polysaccharide vaccines. The primary indication is the prevention of invasive meningococcal disease due to serogroup C. The introduction of this vaccine has led to significant reductions in both carriage and incidence of serogroup C disease through direct protection and herd immunity[2][6].
