Drug intelligence / Profile preview
connexin 43 (M1) antibody (Cx43(M1)) is a mouse monoclonal antibody that selectively blocks connexin 43 (Cx43) hemichannels without disrupting gap junction communication. Developed by the Jiang Laboratory at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio) in collaboration with Abmart, the antibody targets the second extracellular loop of Cx43. By inhibiting Cx43 hemichannels, the antibody blocks the release of small signaling molecules such as prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and adenosine triphosphate (ATP). It is being investigated in preclinical models for various indications, including osteoarthritis, spinal cord injury, optic nerve injury (neuroprotection of retinal ganglion cells), posterior capsule opacification (PCO), and bone remodeling/osteoporosis.
