Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Constibreak-SF is an oral laxative combination product developed by Intra Life, containing lactitol monohydrate (an osmotic laxative) and ispaghula husk (a bulk-forming laxative). It is primarily indicated for the treatment of chronic constipation. Lactitol monohydrate is a synthetic disaccharide sugar alcohol that is not absorbed in the small intestine; instead, it is fermented by colonic bacteria into low-molecular-weight organic acids, which increases osmotic pressure and draws water into the colon to soften stools. Ispaghula husk, a soluble dietary fiber derived from the seeds of *Plantago ovata*, absorbs water in the gastrointestinal tract to form a gel-like mass, increasing stool bulk and promoting peristalsis. Together, these two active ingredients provide a synergistic effect to facilitate comfortable and regular bowel movements.
