Overview

**Control peptide-L-D** is an experimental peptide-decorated, dextran-coated liposomal doxorubicin formulation evaluated preclinically in PANC-1 pancreatic cancer xenograft-bearing NOD-SCID mice. Its control peptide ligand has the sequence RLLDTNRGGGGG and was used as a non-targeted comparator to tumor-cell- and tumor-endothelium-targeted peptide-liposomal doxorubicin constructs. The formulation delivers doxorubicin, whose cytotoxic activity is mediated by DNA intercalation and inhibition of DNA topoisomerase II. In the reported mouse study, control peptide-L-D reduced xenograft size but was associated with marked apoptotic changes in visceral organs, indicating less favorable tolerability than the targeted peptide-liposomal doxorubicin combination.
