Control small interfering RNA + DANP is an experimental negative control formulation used in the development of dual assembly nanoparticles (DANP) for RNA interference (RNAi) therapy. The DANP delivery system is engineered with an inner aqueous core composed of chitosan and a polyphosphate anion (such as tripolyphosphate) which encapsulates the siRNA payload, and an outer hydrophobic coat of polylactic acid (PLA) to provide sustained release and protection from nuclease degradation. This specific version contains a non-silencing "control" siRNA that lacks sequence homology to any known human mRNA, serving as a baseline to evaluate the delivery system's toxicity and to differentiate the gene-specific effects of therapeutic siRNAs (such as those targeting ZNF304). Developed primarily for research in ovarian carcinoma, the DANP platform aims to extend the duration of gene silencing in vivo compared to standard chitosan-based carriers.
