Overview

Controlled-ileal-release nicotinic acid (CIR-NA) is a specific formulation of nicotinic acid (niacin) designed for targeted release in the ileum. Nicotinic acid is a B vitamin used therapeutically primarily to treat hyperlipidemia, dyslipidemia, hypertriglyceridemia, and niacin deficiency. It works by decreasing levels of very low density lipoproteins and low density lipoproteins, while increasing levels of high density lipoproteins. This specific formulation is being investigated for its effects on the gut microbiome and insulin sensitivity.
