Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Convalescent COVID-19 plasma is a biological therapy derived from the blood of individuals who have recovered from a SARS-CoV-2 infection. This plasma contains high titers of neutralizing antibodies that specifically target the virus. When administered to patients with active COVID-19, it provides passive immunity, helping to neutralize the viral load and potentially mitigating the inflammatory response associated with severe disease. The Christ Hospital initiated a clinical program to evaluate this treatment in high-risk hospitalized patients, particularly those showing signs of cardiac injury (elevated troponin) or requiring mechanical ventilation, with the goal of reducing mortality and the duration of intensive care support.
