Convalescent plasma is a passive immunotherapy approach that utilizes the antibody-rich plasma collected from individuals who have recovered from COVID-19. This plasma contains neutralizing antibodies specifically directed against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which, when transfused into patients with active COVID-19 pneumonia, can help neutralize the viral particles and mitigate the progression of the disease. The D'Or Institute for Research and Education (IDOR) initiated a Phase 2 clinical trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of this treatment in hospitalized patients with COVID-19 pneumonia who did not require ventilatory support at the time of enrollment. The primary goal of the therapy in this context is to prevent clinical deterioration and the need for intensive care.
