Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Convalescent plasma (Biofarma) is a biological therapy developed by Biofarma for the treatment of severe COVID-19. The therapy utilizes passive antibody transfer, where plasma containing high titers of neutralizing antibodies (minimum 1/80) is collected from individuals who have recovered from SARS-CoV-2 infection and transfused into patients with active, severe disease. These antibodies bind to the virus, neutralizing its ability to infect host cells and potentially slowing the progression of the infection. The development of this therapy involved a Phase 1 clinical trial in collaboration with Gatot Soebroto Hospital and the Eijkman Institute of Molecular Biology to evaluate safety and clinical outcomes in hospitalized patients.
