Convalescent plasma (Indonesia University)

Convalescent plasma is a form of passive immunotherapy that utilizes the antibody-rich plasma collected from individuals who have recovered from COVID-19. This specific therapeutic program, led by Indonesia University (Universitas Indonesia), evaluates the efficacy and safety of transfusing donor plasma into patients suffering from severe COVID-19 complications, specifically acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The plasma contains high titers of neutralizing antibodies that bind to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, preventing its entry into host cells and facilitating viral clearance. Beyond direct viral neutralization, convalescent plasma may also help modulate the inflammatory response, which is a critical component of ARDS pathology.
