Convalescent plasma is a biological therapy consisting of plasma collected from individuals who have recovered from COVID-19, which contains high titers of neutralizing antibodies against SARS-CoV-2. When transfused into patients with active infection, these antibodies provide immediate passive immunity by binding to the viral spike protein and preventing the virus from entering host cells. This mechanism is intended to reduce viral load, mitigate the inflammatory response, and improve clinical outcomes in severe cases. The Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences investigated this intervention in clinical trials (such as NCT04342273) to assess its efficacy in reducing mortality and improving recovery in hospitalized COVID-19 patients, particularly those admitted to intensive care units.
