Convalescent plasma therapy (CPT) is an investigational biologic treatment modality used for COVID-19, involving the transfusion of plasma collected from recovered patients to those with active SARS-CoV-2 infection. The therapy provides passive immunity via neutralizing antibodies that target the virus, potentially reducing viral load and preventing clinical progression in severe or life-threatening cases. In Nepal, this specific therapeutic approach was evaluated in a large-scale, prospective, multicenter observational study involving 1,315 hospitalized patients across 31 hospitals. The program was led by Dr. Pradip Gyanwali and Dr. Janak Koirala, supervised by the Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC), and funded by the Ministry of Health and Population. While not a commercial drug product, it was approved for investigational and compassionate use in resource-limited settings during the pandemic.
