Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Convalescent plasma (Northside Hospital) is a biologic therapy consisting of blood plasma collected from individuals who have recovered from COVID-19. This plasma contains high titers of neutralizing antibodies, particularly those targeting the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, which are transferred to the recipient to provide passive immunity. Developed by Northside Hospital, Inc. in collaboration with Atlanta Blood Services, this investigational treatment was evaluated in a Phase 2 clinical trial to determine its efficacy in improving survival and clinical outcomes in patients with severe or high-risk COVID-19, as well as healthcare providers. The therapy works by neutralizing the SARS-CoV-2 virus, thereby preventing its entry into host cells and reducing the overall viral burden.
