Convalescent plasma (Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila)

Convalescent plasma (Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila) is a biologic therapy consisting of plasma collected from donors who have recovered from COVID-19. This therapy, investigated in the PROMETEO study, is intended for the treatment of severe or critically ill patients with COVID-19 pneumonia. It functions as a form of passive immunotherapy, providing polyclonal antibodies—primarily neutralizing antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein—to the recipient. These antibodies help neutralize the virus and may modulate the immune response to reduce the severity of the disease. The Phase 1/2 pilot study was conducted at the Hospital Universitario de Saltillo in Mexico.
