Convalescent plasma (West Virginia University) is a passive immunotherapy consisting of plasma collected from individuals who have recovered from COVID-19. This plasma contains high concentrations of polyclonal neutralizing antibodies that specifically target the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Developed for use in a Phase 3 clinical trial by West Virginia University, the therapy is intended to treat patients across the spectrum of COVID-19 severity, from mild to critical. The primary mechanism of action is the neutralization of viral particles, particularly by binding to the spike protein, which prevents the virus from entering host cells and facilitates its clearance by the recipient's immune system.
