Convalescent plasma-Cairo University-COVID-19 is an investigational passive immunotherapy developed by Cairo University for the treatment of severe or life-threatening COVID-19. This biological therapy involves the transfusion of blood plasma collected from donors who have recovered from SARS-CoV-2 infection. The plasma contains a diverse pool of polyclonal antibodies, including neutralizing antibodies that specifically target the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, thereby inhibiting viral entry into host cells and facilitating viral clearance. Cairo University researchers evaluated this intervention in a Phase 1/2 clinical trial conducted at their quarantine hospital facilities to assess its impact on clinical outcomes and survival in hospitalized patients.
