Convalescent plasma therapy developed by TecSalud Investigación Clínica is a passive immunotherapy approach designed to treat patients with severe or life-threatening COVID-19. The therapy involves the extraction of plasma from individuals who have successfully recovered from SARS-CoV-2 infection and the subsequent intravenous transfusion of this plasma into critically ill patients. The active component consists of polyclonal antibodies that target the SARS-CoV-2 virus, providing immediate passive immunity to help the recipient's immune system neutralize the pathogen. TecSalud, the healthcare division of Tecnológico de Monterrey, conducted Phase 1 safety trials and compassionate use protocols evaluating this biologic treatment as an adjuvant therapy for patients with respiratory failure who were refractory to standard-of-care treatments like hydroxychloroquine and antivirals.
