Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Convalescent plasma is a form of passive immunotherapy where plasma containing antibodies from individuals who have recovered from COVID-19 is transfused into patients with active SARS-CoV-2 infection. The primary therapeutic component consists of neutralizing antibodies that target the viral spike protein, thereby inhibiting viral entry into host cells and facilitating viral clearance. TriHealth Inc. initiated a Phase 2 clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy of this treatment in reducing mortality and improving clinical outcomes among hospitalized high-risk patients. The plasma for this specific program was sourced from the Hoxworth Blood Center, an FDA-registered blood establishment.
