Overview

Convalescent plasma-Universidad Nacional de Asunción-COVID-19 is an investigational biologic therapy developed by the Universidad Nacional de Asunción in Paraguay for the treatment of hospitalized COVID-19 patients. The therapy involves the passive immunization of patients using plasma collected from individuals who have recovered from SARS-CoV-2 infection, specifically selected for high titers of anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies. In a randomized clinical trial, patients received two 200 ml doses of the plasma on the first and second days of hospitalization. The mechanism of action relies on the transfer of neutralizing antibodies to neutralize the virus and modulate the immune response. However, clinical study results indicated no statistically significant improvement in clinical outcomes or mortality compared to standard care.
