Overview

This refers to a specific systemic analgesic regimen used as the control arm in clinical trials led by Eckehart SCHÖLL for the management of acute pain in patients with clavicular fractures. The protocol consists of a multi-drug approach tailored by patient age: younger patients (<70 years) receive oral ibuprofen and metamizole, while older patients (≥70 years) receive oral acemetacin and metamizole. The regimen also includes rescue analgesia consisting of oral oxycodone hydrochloride drops and intravenous fentanyl in the emergency department setting. This combination therapy provides pain relief through the inhibition of cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2) to reduce prostaglandin synthesis and the activation of mu-opioid receptors to modulate pain perception in the central nervous system.
