This multi-drug protocol was designed by researchers at Nazarbayev University to manage patients with atherosclerosis and associated metabolic comorbidities, including hypertension, dyslipidemia, and type 2 diabetes. The regimen includes atorvastatin (Liprimar) for lipid lowering, lisinopril (Diroton) and diltiazem for blood pressure control, metformin or exenatide for glycemic management, and aspirin (TromboACC) or clopidogrel for antiplatelet therapy. The trial compared this conventional pharmacological approach to a lifestyle-based intervention consisting of a very low-calorie vegetable diet and increased physical activity.
