Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**convertibleCAR** is a modular **CAR-T cell therapy platform** developed by **Xyphos Biosciences** and advanced within **Astellas Pharma**. The platform engineers patient or donor T cells to express a chimeric antigen receptor built around an inert form of the human **NKG2D extracellular domain** called **iNKG2D**. These convertibleCAR-T cells are designed to remain functionally controllable and are activated only in the presence of proprietary bispecific adapter molecules known as **MicAbodies**, which fuse an iNKG2D-selective ULBP2-derived ligand to an antigen-binding antibody. This architecture allows the same CAR-T cell product to be redirected to different tumor or infected-cell antigens by changing the adapter, potentially improving dosing control, multiplex targeting, and retargeting compared with conventional single-antigen CAR-T therapies. The platform has been explored in oncology, including hematologic malignancies and solid tumors, and has also been described in HIV eradication strategies aimed at reducing the latent HIV reservoir.
