Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Convidecia Air is an inhaled formulation of the recombinant COVID-19 vaccine developed by CanSino Biologics. It uses a replication-defective adenovirus type 5 vector to deliver the gene encoding the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. Unlike traditional intramuscular vaccines, Convidecia Air is administered as an aerosol via nebulizer and inhaled through the mouth, mimicking the natural infection route of respiratory viruses. This needle-free approach induces humoral, cellular, and mucosal immunity against SARS-CoV-2 and has been shown to generate strong immune responses as a heterologous booster following inactivated or other primary vaccinations. The vaccine was first approved for emergency use in China as a booster dose in September 2022 and has since been authorized in other countries such as Morocco and Indonesia[2][3][4][8]. Clinical studies have demonstrated that it provides robust protection against severe disease with no serious adverse events reported[3][4].
