Cook Medical EMR Gel

Cook Medical EMR Gel, commercially known as LiftUp, is an FDA-approved submucosal injection agent used during endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). It is designed to be injected into the submucosal layer of the gastrointestinal tract to create a high-viscosity, long-lasting cushion that elevates the target lesion (such as a polyp or early-stage tumor) away from the underlying muscularis propria. This "lift" provides a clear margin for resection, reduces the risk of thermal injury to the deeper wall layers during cautery, and minimizes the chance of perforation. The gel's viscosity is a critical factor in maintaining the height and duration of the lift, which was the focus of the ex-vivo study led by Antonios Likourezos (NCT02519140).
