Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Coolprep Gold Powder is an osmotic laxative formulation developed by Taejoon Pharmaceutical for gastrointestinal pretreatment. It is primarily indicated for bowel cleansing in preparation for colonoscopy, barium enema X-ray examinations, or abdominal surgery. The product is a low-volume (1-liter) polyethylene glycol (PEG) 3350-based powder that, when reconstituted, creates an iso-osmotic solution. It typically contains PEG 3350 along with electrolytes (sodium sulfate, sodium chloride, potassium chloride) and ascorbic acid/sodium ascorbate. The mechanism of action involves PEG 3350 acting as an osmotic agent that retains water within the intestinal lumen, thereby increasing stool volume and stimulating bowel movements to effectively clear the colon while the included electrolytes and ascorbic acid help maintain fluid balance and improve the cleansing effect.
