Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Coopers Spot-on CY is a veterinary insecticide formulation containing cypermethrin, a synthetic pyrethroid. It is primarily used in livestock, such as sheep and cattle, for the control of external parasites including lice, keds, and flies. The active ingredient, cypermethrin, functions as a neurotoxin by disrupting the normal function of voltage-gated sodium channels in the nervous system of target parasites. This leads to prolonged channel opening, causing repetitive nerve firing, paralysis, and eventual death of the insect. The "CY" designation distinguishes this cypermethrin-based formulation from other products in the Coopers Spot-on range that may contain deltamethrin. It is applied topically as a "spot-on" treatment, providing residual protection against re-infestation.
