Overview

Copaiba aqueous mouthwash is an investigational botanical therapy derived from the oleoresin of *Copaifera* trees, which are native to the Amazon region. It is being developed for the management of oral mucositis, a common and debilitating side effect in patients with head and neck cancer undergoing radiotherapy or chemotherapy. The mouthwash is formulated to leverage the natural anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and wound-healing properties of copaiba. In a Phase I clinical trial conducted at the Instituto Nacional de Câncer (INCA) in Brazil, the solution demonstrated a favorable safety profile with no dose-limiting toxicities at concentrations up to 15%, used four times daily. The study suggests that it may serve as a safe alternative or adjunct to low-power laser therapy, particularly in tumor regions where laser use is contraindicated.
