Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cupric chloride-64 (copper (64Cu) chloride) is a radiopharmaceutical diagnostic agent containing the positron-emitting isotope copper-64. Developed by ITEL Pharma, it is utilized as a tracer for Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging. The agent exploits the natural physiological role of copper and the upregulation of copper transporters, specifically the high-affinity copper uptake protein 1 (CTR1), in various pathological states. It is clinically applied in the detection and staging of several malignancies, including prostate cancer, glioblastoma, and breast cancer, as well as in the evaluation of copper metabolism in neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and cardiovascular conditions such as atherosclerosis.
