Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Copper + luteolin (CuL NCs) is a metal-polyphenol coordination nanocomplex designed for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). By combining copper ions with the natural flavonoid luteolin, the complex exhibits potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Its mechanism involves scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS) and modulating key signaling pathways, specifically activating the Nrf2/HO-1 oxidative stress pathway and inhibiting the NF-κB inflammatory pathway. In preclinical mouse models of ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, CuL NCs have demonstrated the ability to reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines, protect intestinal epithelial cells, promote mucosal barrier repair, and restore healthy intestinal microbiota.
