Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Copper-67 dotatate (also known as [67Cu]Cu-DOTA-TATE) is a therapeutic radiopharmaceutical in preclinical development for the treatment of somatostatin receptor-expressing tumors, such as neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). It consists of the somatostatin analog tyrosine-3-octreotate (TATE) conjugated to the macrocyclic chelator DOTA and radiolabeled with copper-67 (67Cu), a beta- and gamma-emitting radioisotope. The TATE peptide targets and binds with high affinity to somatostatin receptor type 2 (SSTR2) overexpressed on neuroendocrine tumor cells, delivering localized cytotoxic beta-particle radiation to destroy cancer cells while emitting gamma radiation suitable for SPECT imaging (theranostics).
