Inosan Biopharma's coral snake antivenom is a polyvalent, equine-derived F(ab')2 immunoglobulin fragment preparation currently in Phase 3 clinical development for the treatment of coral snake (Micrurus species) envenomation in South America. The product is manufactured by immunizing horses with a mixture of coral snake venoms, followed by the extraction of plasma and enzymatic digestion with pepsin to remove the Fc portion of the IgG antibodies. This process yields F(ab')2 fragments that maintain high neutralizing activity against neurotoxic venom components while significantly reducing the risk of Fc-mediated adverse effects, such as serum sickness or anaphylaxis. The antivenom is designed to be administered intravenously to rapidly neutralize circulating toxins and prevent or reverse the neuromuscular blockade characteristic of coral snake bites.
