Overview

Coramsine (SBP002) is an investigational antineoplastic agent consisting of a 1:1 mixture of the steroidal glycoalkaloids solasonine and solamargine. Derived from the *Solanum linneanum* (Devil's Apple) plant, the drug was developed by Solbec Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of advanced solid tumors, specifically Stage III/IV melanoma and renal cell carcinoma. Its mechanism of action involves the induction of both apoptotic and non-apoptotic programmed cell death in malignant cells, as well as the stimulation of an immune response against tumors. Coramsine received Orphan Drug designation from the U.S. FDA for renal cell carcinoma in 2005 and melanoma in 2006. However, clinical development was halted around 2008 due to financial difficulties and the inability to secure a development partner.
