Overview

Corchorusoside C is a cardenolide natural product isolated from the plant *Streptocaulon juventas*. It is being investigated as a potential antineoplastic agent, particularly for the treatment of prostate cancer. Mechanistically, corchorusoside C targets the noncanonical NF-κB pathway by inhibiting the expression of NF-kappa-B-inducing kinase (NIK), IKKα, and NF-κB p65. Preclinical studies in zebrafish and DU-145 prostate cancer cells have shown that it modulates several key proteins involved in DNA repair and apoptosis, including increasing XRCC-1 expression and decreasing p53 and XIAP levels. Additionally, it has been found to decrease caspase-1 activity and IL-18 expression. In comparative toxicity studies, corchorusoside C demonstrated a more favorable safety profile in zebrafish than its analog digoxin and other common anticancer drugs.
