Cordia verbenacea essential oil

Acheflan is a topical anti-inflammatory phytomedicine developed and marketed by Aché Laboratórios Farmacêuticos S.A. in Brazil. It is derived from the essential oil of *Cordia verbenacea* DC, a plant native to the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. The product is standardized to alpha-humulene, which serves as the primary active marker. Its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of pro-inflammatory mediators, specifically reducing the production of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), as well as decreasing the expression of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). Acheflan is indicated for the local treatment of inflammatory conditions such as tendinitis, muscle pain, lower back pain, and injuries resulting from trauma, such as sprains and contusions. It was the first pharmaceutical product entirely researched and developed in Brazil, resulting from a seven-year collaboration between Aché and national universities.
