Overview
Cordyceps cicadae aqueous extract (CCE) is a botanical extract derived from the entomopathogenic fungus *Cordyceps cicadae* (Miq.) Massee, which has a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicine. The extract is a complex mixture of bioactive compounds, including polysaccharides, nucleosides (such as cordycepin and adenosine), mannitol, and polyphenols. Preclinical research suggests that CCE exhibits significant antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory activities. Specifically, it has been shown to reduce intraocular pressure in models of glaucoma by enhancing the activity of antioxidant enzymes like catalase and superoxide dismutase. Additionally, it promotes hyaluronan synthesis in skin fibroblasts, indicating potential for cosmetic and dermatological applications in skin aging. It is also being investigated for its potential benefits in chronic kidney disease and cancer.
